I probably start every Favourites post with this phrase but Favourites posts are always my favourite to read. (Gotta stop saying ‘favourite’). My loves and loathes are pretty damn random, and so I love a post that covers everything. After all in what other post could I go from talking about Zak Bagans, to toasters? This one is action packed mainly because let’s face it I have a lot of back log from the months that I have missed. (Lots of making up to do, I know I know).
Whilst some of these items have been gifted, I am under no obligation to post about them. Receiving them as gifts merely introduces me to them so that I can share my honest opinion. No bribing here; unless that bribe is pizza. Let’s get cracking.
I’ve been using this in conjunction with Dr Botanical’s Advanced Bio-brightening Eye Cream. I was gifted this nearly six months ago very kindly by Dr Botanical’s. Coming in at a whopping £99 per pot, despite good old Dr B being my absolute favourite skincare brand I was slightly dubious at the price for such a small pot, however you really are paying for luxury and a little goes a long way. Six months in and I am still not needing to repurchase this. I dab a little under my eyes on an evening, and rub it into my skin with my rose quartz roller. It’s absolute heaven, let me tell you.
I had been having trouble lately with finding foundations that would stay on all day. Granted, when I’m constantly doing something and walking 10K minimum a day in my new city life, that is no easy feat, but no-one is down for the whole foundation sliding off the nose look. After a Google for long-lasting foundations, and some great blog recommendations, I decided to give Maybelline’s Superstay 24 Hour Foundation a go. My old baby was MAC’s studio fix fluid, but now racking up to RRP £26, I couldn’t justify it for the results. For a drugstore foundation, this gives a really flawless finish, a good medium coverage and really does last, and doesn’t slide off the skin even when I’m dashing about all day. It’s also really buildable, and I like to mix it with Rimmel’s Lasting Finish Foundation, it’s a perfect colour match and combination and it’s a current staple in my makeup bag.
Shout-out to Mumma Mort for this gem. This mascara is the bomb. I’ve never said that phrase before and quiet frankly I can’t pull it off, but it’s the best way to describe it. I’m lucky enough to be blessed with long lashes, but this lengthens like never before. I’ve tried a lot of mascara’s, and Max Factor have always been front-runners for me, but this is by far their best yet. I normally buy whatever mascara looks good when I run out, as having long lashes I don’t have to be too picky, but this is the one I’ll keep reaching for.
Is it a favourites post if I don’t rave about Dr Botanical’s? No I’m not sponsored by them, I just think their skincare is next-level luxurious and incredibly under-rated. I’ve been using this moisturiser for months and months, again it was gifted aaaages ago but I’ve been reaching for it more and more lately – (as has my boyfriend who is just as much in love with the brand as I am, and he’s super picky with his sensitive skin). This smells amazing, and makes my skin feel so soft and doesn’t break me out which is so important to me. A lot of brands have jumped on the Morrocan Rose wagon, I mean it smells incredible, but I don’t ever believe that this one will be beaten.
My family really kindly bought me this as a thank you for dog-sitting when they went on holiday (as if the dog wasn’t enough). I’m a huge fan of sweet smells and this is just the perfect Sophie scent. The bottle is stunning and I’ve been constantly reaching for it every day.
T’is the season. Well, not quite but Autumn is finally upon us. The time for red lips, pumpkin spice lattes, and winter boots. Primark have killed it already, with stylish Chelsea Boots only for £12. I don’t know anywhere else that would sell that at half the price. I’ve currently been living out of them for the past three weeks, it’ll be interesting to see if they’ll stand the test of time but I consider that an absolute bargain.
I’m not super into crystals, however I’m really wanting to learn more about them. I’ve been doing tarot a lot more lately, and have found myself drawn to Rose Quartz a lot (hence the theme). Rose Quartz properties include; love, healing and compassion; and whether it’s a placebo or not, I love to have it around me. I saw some crystal necklaces in Accessorize – living in a city is really testing my bank balance, and couldn’t help but take this one home with me.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but my staple to a bedroom, my own little corner has always been my desk/dressing table. This is where I like to create my little girly zone, with some flowers and titbits, and as soon as we moved to our new flat I fell in love with this. It’s perfect for storing rings, earrings and small necklaces, and it’s so pretty and dainty.
I’m absolutely obsessed with our flat, and this helped to really add a gorgeous finishing touch to our bedroom. It arrived within only a few days of ordering it, and it looks so luxurious. The company has mixed reviews which I didn’t read until after I had ordered the mirror, however I only had good experiences with them.
I currently write this in university with sore eyes. Why? Because I forgot to pack these with me today. These are a god-send. I’ve always suffered from headaches, especially when staring at screens, and after blaming most on the pill (although this probably still has something to do with it), I realised that it was at the worst when staring at screens. I had seen Facebook Ad’s recommending ‘blue light’ blocking glasses, and decided to give it a go because the thought of two hour lectures staring at screens through pained eyes, is not appealing. These actually work. They are none-prescription, but essentially block out the blue light that comes from screens and causes migraines. When I wear these, I don’t get any eye strain or headaches, and I actually get compliments on them!
I own a lot of perfume and body sprays, and I’d been on the hunt for a prettier way to display them. In places like NEXT, perfume trays were around £35 (ouch), and I was so happy to find one on Amazon for only £13! It had no reviews so I probably should’ve been more wary, however it’s so pretty and I’m really happy with it.
Everyone who has an Instagram account has probably heard of Desenio, the Queen’s of wall-art. Our flat came with wall-art already hanging, however New York Taxi Cabs was not the look that I was going for. One large Desenio shop later and it’s amazing how prints can make such a difference, in tying a room together as well as making a home feel more expensive and interesting. My all time favourite print is their ‘Pink Sky’ one.
I raided Homesense successfully soooo many times in search of home accessories. From faux flowers that look so genuine, to gold mirrored beauty trays, candles, sugar pots, cushions, plants and storage containers, Homesense has really made our home feel like ours. I wish they had their own website, but I guess that makes the items you find even more unique.
NEXT whilst pricey, has also added some gorgeous touches to our new home, from these stunning his and hers mugs, to our cozy bear coasters.
90% of our kitchenware, from our cream vintage toaster, kettle, plates, weighing scales, spoons etc you get the picture, has been from Wilko’s. Not only has it been incredibly affordable, but it’s also very fashionable as well as good quality.
Netflix, Television & Film
WOW. WOW. WOW. How did I nearly start a Criminology degree without watching this? Season One started off slow, but towards the end you understand the reason behind it, and why David Fincher is such a genius. This show is just mindblowing, I couldn’t recommend it more. It’s possibly the best television that I have ever seen.
Powerful, thought-provoking, true crime and Toni Collette. The perfect mix for an incredible show.
I am STILL making my way through this with my virgin-to-FRIENDS-boyfriend. It’s so cool watching everybody’s favourite sit-com through the eyes of someone who’s never seen it before. Last night we got to ‘Take thee, Rachel’ (if you know, you know) and Tom gasped aloud. Such a special show.
FRIENDS isn’t the only show I’ve introduced Tom to. I’ve been hooked on this since I was in school (crazy), and now we’re both addicted to it. It’s the best paranormal show around in my opinion, and I love that they debunk things, instead of fabricating evidence that isn’t there.
That’s all for now, I’ll be back soon I promise and this time wearing my glasses. *squints*
All my love,
