From packing, to passport renewing, until you’re lying on that golden beach with some much deserved alcohol in your hand, holidays can be extremely stressful.

Here’s some tips and tricks that I’ve picked up as a major stresshead:

  • Luggage: One huge fear of mine is that my luggage will go missing or will end up being lost. Whilst ultimately you can’t avoid this, there are two ways that you can decrease the inconvenience and chance of it happening. Luggage tags are a blessing, they don’t have to be expensive at all, but it stops other people picking up the wrong cases, and makes sure people know where to send it if the worst happens. If you want to take it one step further, write your holiday and home address on some paper, and leave it at the top of your suitcase, for the unlikely event that your tag falls off. If you are an ultimate stresshead then bring the ultimate things that you would need on your holiday if the worst happens, such as swimming costumes, sunglasses, and sun cream. That way if your luggage is temporarily lost, it won’t hold you back from your holiday.
  • Packing: You want to be able to fit as much as you can inside of your suitcase, without having to pay for extra bags. The rolling up trick works every time – roll all of your clothes up, and it makes them a lot smaller than folding, you’ll be surprised at the difference it makes.
  • Whilst exchanging currency, the rate is always different between both destinations. Always try and transfer your money back on your holiday, as it’s generally much cheaper. If you have a new card for your holiday money, always remove all money from it before returning, as if you have leftover money, the banks can claim percentages of it overtime.
  • Always always, check your luggage allowance before arriving at the airport. You don’t want to be the person emptying all of their suitcase at check in.
  • All liquids under 100ml in your carry on bag, needs to be in a clear wallet. These include things you don’t necessarily think of, like chap-sticks and Vaseline. Also, a new rule means you must hand security any tablets or electronics over 15cm separately, so it’s better to prepare whilst waiting than fumbling around your bag as a grouchy line waits behind you.
  • Buy more sun cream than you think you’ll need; if you think it’s overpriced here, don’t even try and buy any abroad. Shops know how large the sun cream demand will be over there, and take advantage of it. Save money by bringing as much as is sanely possible.
  • Finally, wear the heaviest clothes that you’re packing, to the airport. It’ll save you a lot more weight than you think.
